John King is a nationally recognized martial arts master, holistic therapist, ordained minister, recently published author and inspirational speaker. He draws on a lifetime of participation in the martial arts, healing arts, and performing arts to deliver unforgettable presentations to his audiences. His energizing philosophy centers on “ancient wisdom for modern living.” This passionate, dynamic, and motivating approach to learning has empowered many to reach their life goals.
John is also the president and co-founder of EarthCoach Institute, Inc. an educational multimedia wellness network.
His Southern California dojo “Sound of the Sun” was the first in Los Angeles to
specialize in teaching personal safety to women. Working with the Los Angeles Police Department, John created the popular, personal safety seminar ‘Safe in the City – Personal Safety for Practical Women.’ This community-based, monthly presentation was hosted by local businesses and frequently attended by countless pairs of mothers and their teenage daughters.
In response to demand by concerned real estate agents, John created R.E.S.A.A., the Real Estate Safety Association of America, to help prevent the nationwide trend of violent acts against real estate professionals from becoming a local reality. This objective was achieved by raising awareness about the need for on-the-job personal safety strategies and teaching practical self-defense techniques to brokers and agents.
John’s involvement in self-defense spans twenty five years, and he is an expert in both personal protection and event security. His connection to safety evolved from late nights touring the world as a professional drummer, including a USO tour throughout the Middle East, Europe and Africa. He has had the unique privilege of ensuring the well-being of many high profile clients, most of whom prefer anonymity, including popular bands, noted entertainers, famous actors, professional wrestlers, and even the late San Diego Padres baseball star, Ken Caminitti.
John is a Sensei (meaning “one who teaches” in Japanese) in the graceful yet effective, defensive art of Aikido Kokikai. He has trained diligently in this art for nearly a decade and currently holds the rank of Nidan, or 2nd degree black belt. In the process, he has acquired the skills of a Samurai warrior and the poise of a ballet dancer. Although he does not currently own or operate his own studio in the Philadelphia area, his life, methods, and approach are so unique that he is known as the ‘Uncommon Sensei.’
He embraced the life path of the eternal student to learn the Japanese healing art of Reiki. After five years of study, he achieved the esteemed status of a Level III Reiki Master. Now through extensive research and development at his private practice in Los Angeles, he has developed and trademarked a proprietary method of energy therapy known as Reikiatsu®. These healing arts perfectly complement his natural approach to life and teaching, and he performs them on his grateful human and canine clients.
John’s latest book is already being hailed as a self - help classic. “Breathe Yourself to Better Health – An In-Depth Look at Breathing from the Inside Out” demystifies previously arcane knowledge regarding breath control and human physiology and transforms it into life-changing exercises simple enough for everyone to perform. It is a veritable tour de force on how to breathe your best to be your best!
All of these efforts have earned him vast and ever growing media recognition by NBC 10, FOX 29, Main Line Life, The City Paper, Grow Magazine, The Valley Social Newspaper, The Encino Envoy, on various online radio interviews, the hit television series “Hack,” and a number of independent and mainstream films.
After living in Los Angeles for several years, John and his partner Jae, Maggie, Elvis and Lucy have recently relocated to the Philadelphia area to be closer to his family, and they are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to “make a difference” back where it all started!
